About the chapter

A Small Community with Open Doors

Ahmadi Muslim families have called Oshkosh home since 1986. Today about a hundred of us, from Oshkosh and across the Fox Valley, gather at Qamar Mosque on North Eagle Street, right across from Oshkosh West High School.

We are a small community, and we like it that way: everyone knows everyone, children grow up together in Tahir Academy, and the mosque doors are open to neighbors of every faith.

Love for All, Hatred for None. The motto of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, and the way we try to live in Oshkosh every day.

Life at Qamar Mosque

  • Prayers: the five daily prayers and Friday prayer (Jumu’ah) with the Friday Sermon. Times are listed on this page.
  • Tahir Academy: Sunday classes for children in Holy Quran reading, prayers and the basics of Islam.
  • Auxiliaries: Lajna Ima’illah (women), Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya (young men), Majlis Ansarullah (men over 40), and Atfal and Nasirat for boys and girls.
  • Service: food pantries, coat and backpack drives, highway clean-ups and blood drives.
  • Open to all: open mosque days, interfaith gatherings and question-and-answer evenings about Islam.

Our story in brief

  • 1986: the first Ahmadi Muslim families settle in Oshkosh and meet in homes and basements.
  • 2010: the city approves our mosque, and a former funeral home on North Eagle Street becomes Qamar Mosque, with a promise to always keep its doors open.
